Over the last month the Happily FATshionable series that you can find here, here, here, here and here has been giving tips and tricks and blatant honesty on how to be Fat Fab Fashion Forward and Happy with the skin you are in. We have gone over plenty of tips to happier mental state, getting dressed, shopping in the correct stores, not letting size determine your worth and after all of this I have to wonder, knowing what we now know about being Happily FATshionable who the hell would hate shopping?
We all have that friend who loathes shopping, when you ask why they never really have any firm answer. What it comes down to is this friend is probably just having body image issues, isnt shopping in the right stores or is in size denial. When shopping and FATshion living is done the right way with a good state of mind and a healthy body image there is no reason getting out there trying things on, getting creative with pieces and rocking those great clothing finds shouldnt be anything but an absolutely wonderful, fun and in my opinion therapeutic experience. So my challenge to you any still shopping haters, yes Erica I mean you
is to grab a friend and hit the racks! Follow some of the tips we have outlined in the series and gain a new found love for clothes, fashion and for yourself.
- Quit the fucked up behavior, don’t let clothes ever make you feel bad about yourself!
- Toss the clothes that don’t fit and take away the power they have to affect your body image negatively!
- Get some bras and panties that are sized correctly and make you feel comfortable and sexy!
- I mean it go to a store and get sized for a bra, it could change your life!
- Find shopping Nirvana at plus sized stores that cater to your needs and are positive environments!
- Don’t get hung up on the size, it’s just a stupid number!
- Gain control over your garments by buying bigger and tailoring to fit, don’t let the clothes control you!
- Tell Yoplait to Fuck Off & Take That Damn Bikini Off Your Wall!
- Don’t use smaller clothing as motivation, punishment or nagging reminders!
- Above all else surrounding yourself with good energy and that includes the energy you put out. Be you happily Fatshionable self and life will be cake, a good chocolate cake!
Happily FATshionable will continue on a new page starting sometime next week. It will be called HAPPILY FATshionably YOU and will be showcasing girls who embody Happily Fatshionable in their best outfits.
If you would like to be a Happily FATshionably YOU guest please email me at StilettoSiren@live.com with 3 photos of you in your 3 best outfits. Include a small paragraph about where you got the clothes (help a shopping sista out!) and why they make you feel Happily Fatshionable. This will also be an opportunity for you to plug your own site/blog if you have one. Along with this I will be adding a new blog roll to my site and will include the site of any Happily Fatshionably YOU guests.

I hate to shop because I hate spending money… if I have millions I would shop everyday for shoes… GAWD I love shoes! Really though that is the only reason I hate to shop. I don’t mind going through all the clothes and usually I do shop a size for comfort not style… except for shoes (if they are cute and hurt my feet I will deal).

I don’t hate shopping; I hate the time needed to go shopping. I used to browse the local thrift store almost weekly, usually before hitting the gym next to it. Most weeks, there was nothing, but sometimes there’d be a great top or jacket for me.
Then I had kids. Full-time job + Washington, DC commute = 3-4 hours/day with my young family. No more browsing for clothes, no more gym. I don’t know where to put it.
When I do need new clothes – and I generally don’t/can’t go shopping until there is a specific need with a deadline – I get grumpy that I don’t know how long it will take me to find them, or that I’ll have to “settle” for pieces I don’t really love nor reflect my own style but that fit reasonably well, because I don’t have the time to be slowly, incrementally building the wardrobe that I want. That’s what I hate about shopping – not the experience itself, but how I have to implement it in my life right now.
