Guest Post: Learning To Love My Curves, One White Dress At A Time

Hello lovelies!

As I am horribly sick with that darn flu thats been going around I have decided that this week while I am down for the count I am going to let you get to know some of the other wonderful bloggers in the fashion community that I love and you should love too! A week of guest posts from women who push boundaries, are the greatest people you could ever meet, and inspire me on a daily basis is just what the doctor ordered this week on Lips Hips & FATshion Tips! Don’t you worry though next week I will be back.

Our first “Get Well Guest Post” is from the lovely and talented Anika of By Anika

Learning to love my curves, one white dress at a time

written by Anika of By Anika

I have always been well endowed -shall we say -with generous curves, but I haven`t always loved my figure. I spent most of my life hiding, trying to be invisible, feeling ashamed of my self and my body. As I started working on my self image and challenged my self hatred I began to move into a place of acceptance for my self and my hourglassy curves.

Then one day it finally hit me: Hang on. I am fat! People can see me even if I don`t want them too. I can`t hide, so I might as well wear leopard prints and white on bottom! Perfect logic, no?

At that I finally got on with not only accepting my curves but loving – flaunting them! Armed with my new confidence I set out to find sexy and beautiful clothes, only to find that they didn`t exist.

My attitude to life is that there are no obstacles that I can`t take on, problems are simply solutions I have yet to discover. True to form I decided that I would not be defeated. The solution? Put my creativity to good use and design and sew my clothes. I have always been a quirky dresser, and in my twenties I finally blossomed. First on my list? Something I thought I would never dare to wear:

White. Frills. On my bottom.

This white dress was one of my personal breakthroughs in terms of defining what I can wear and not.

That definition was blown wide open when I picked my shamed self up from the dressing room floor (when the dress sized XL didn`t fit) and walked out of the store with two matching dresses, determined that I was going to wear the beautiful white frills no matter what, hips and tummy and all.

I made a dress from the two dresses, and have reworked the dress several times in the last year. Each take on the dress mirrors my growing confidence, and I love it.

I feel so much better when I have the guts to wear what I want, and as far as I am concerned it`s not really about size – it`s all about knowing my shape and working it.

If the dress doesn`t fit it`s not me that needs changing -it`s the dress! Can I get an AMEN!

Love, Anika

Anika is also an inspiration to new plus-size bloggers like me. It’s almost as if Anika’s confidence is contagious — whenever I read one of her posts I come away feeling better about myself and more willing to try something new fashion-wise.

Stiletto Siren, too! I’ve been lurking for awhile, however this is my first comment. I love the outfits you put together and I have borrowed quite a few ideas from you. Thank you! x :)
