Guest Post: Em from Full Of Fabulous!

Be Social!

Hi Everyone!

First up on the guest post week is one of my favorite new friends Em from the blog Full Of Fabulous

I gotta say guest blogging for Stiletto goes on my ‘list of awesome’.

True my ‘list of awesome’ was only just started & so far only includes guest blogging for Stiletto but I think that only confirms how truly awesome I think it is.

Living in New Brunswick, Canada fashionable options can be hard to come by in any size so being plus size here is a challenge. One day I stumbled on Stiletto’s blog & got all tingly. There is a long boring story filled with self-doubt & bad photos but I think I’ve finally got the hang of it.

I’m now New Brunswick’s only plus size fashion blogger!

This is today’s outfit, worn to a meeting with a local boutique owner who wanted to pick my brain about plus sized fashion lines. She is currently carrying some amazing things including adorable dresses which you can see on my blog.

I live in an incredible part of the world so I like to try & include something/some place great in my outfit photos. Today I shot these at a local school built in 1961, that was awfuly quiet & lonely on this rainy August afternoon.

The top is from Canadian retailer Addition Elle’s (that does ship to the US!) MXM line.

These jeans are my favorite pair ever & are from ASOS Curve. At 6 feet tall & plus size, jeans & pants can be a nightmare but as you can see, they are the perfect length.

I felt pretty Full of Fabulous today & that’s all this girl can ask for.

*necklace & rings gifted, shoes from Naot & clutch from Ardene

Thank Stiletto Siren for asking me to share a bit of my world.

Guest Post: Warming Up For Spring With Layers

Be Social!

To end “Get Well Guest Post” week we have a post from one of my besties Beth from Pretty-In-Plus I met her during Viva Fat Vegas and I love this girl to death. We get along great and have a ton in common. She is always a blast both to hang out with and just to read her blog. I love Beth most because she is genuine, adorkable in the best way and absolutely fabulous! Beth is superb when it comes to layering in looks which is totally necessary in Canada where she and her hubby who I also have had the pleasure of meeting and gambling with, live and today she is going to share with us her layering tips!

Warming Up For Spring With Layers

by Beth from Pretty-In-Plus

I am so ready for spring. How about you? Unfortunately I live in Canada and there’s two feet of snow on the ground, so I’m not ready to even think about parting with my snugly sweaters just yet. But if like me you’re desperate to bring some fresh spring colours and prints into your wardrobe right now without dying of cold, then don’t fret, because here’s my list of layers you could start wearing now and keep wearing right into summer.

1. Okay I have to admit; I’m a bit of a scarf addict. Not only can a scarf keep your neck warm as we say goodbye to the winter months, but it’s a cheap and easy way to work some of those new spring shades into your outfits. I love this nude one from Dorothy Perkins, the tiny sequins give it such an understated glamour that it could make you look like a movie star even if you were just wearing jeans and a white t-shirt.

2. It might be a little early to start wearing your favourite floral prints, but if you’d like to give a friendly nod to spring flowers, you could always pin a cute flower to your winter coat. This one from Torrid also doubles as a hairclip and I can just picture myself wearing this in my hair while sitting on the beach in August.

3. If you’re dying to wear your summer dresses a month or two early then tights are your best friend. If you want to keep the colours fresh and light for spring then check out we love colors, because you can’t beat them for selection. I’m really digging their pale sorbet shades right now.

4. This lacy ruffle vest from Torrid is so romantic, don’t you think? And in that neutral colour you could pair it with absolutely anything; right now it would look so cute peeking out from beneath an unbuttoned winter coat, in the summer it would look beautiful paired with a pretty maxi dress. The possibilities are endless!

5. Depending on where you live it could be another month or two before the weather is cool enough for a denim jacket, but this pale one from Yours Clothing is the perfect light layer for when that time comes. It goes with every other piece I’ve listed and it will last you right through the summer as the perfect accompaniment to a sun-dress.

What things are you most looking forward to wearing when the weather warms up?

-Beth

Learning to love my curves, one white dress at a time

written by Anika of By Anika

I have always been well endowed -shall we say -with generous curves, but I haven`t always loved my figure. I spent most of my life hiding, trying to be invisible, feeling ashamed of my self and my body. As I started working on my self image and challenged my self hatred I began to move into a place of acceptance for my self and my hourglassy curves.

Then one day it finally hit me: Hang on. I am fat! People can see me even if I don`t want them too. I can`t hide, so I might as well wear leopard prints and white on bottom! Perfect logic, no?

At that I finally got on with not only accepting my curves but loving – flaunting them! Armed with my new confidence I set out to find sexy and beautiful clothes, only to find that they didn`t exist.

My attitude to life is that there are no obstacles that I can`t take on, problems are simply solutions I have yet to discover. True to form I decided that I would not be defeated. The solution? Put my creativity to good use and design and sew my clothes. I have always been a quirky dresser, and in my twenties I finally blossomed. First on my list? Something I thought I would never dare to wear:

White. Frills. On my bottom.

This white dress was one of my personal breakthroughs in terms of defining what I can wear and not.

That definition was blown wide open when I picked my shamed self up from the dressing room floor (when the dress sized XL didn`t fit) and walked out of the store with two matching dresses, determined that I was going to wear the beautiful white frills no matter what, hips and tummy and all.

I made a dress from the two dresses, and have reworked the dress several times in the last year. Each take on the dress mirrors my growing confidence, and I love it.

I feel so much better when I have the guts to wear what I want, and as far as I am concerned it`s not really about size – it`s all about knowing my shape and working it.

If the dress doesn`t fit it`s not me that needs changing -it`s the dress! Can I get an AMEN!

Love, Anika

Ps. Thank you for being such an inspiration Stiletto, and thank you for letting me guest post. I <3 you.
