Celeb Style Crush- Miley Cyrus Grunge

Hey Curvy Chicks!

I never ever thought I would say this but I have been absolutely obsessed lately with none other than ex-Disney royalty Miley Cyrus. Ever since she chopped off her locks a few months back and worked the hell out of her blonde undercut play on a pixie I have had my eye on her and seem to have an extreme new found appreciation for everything Miley.  Not only has her hair pulled on the strings of my fierce and edgy heart but also her street style has really been speaking to my rock n roll soul! Call it a crush if you will  both in style and overall awesome.

I decided to compile some of my favorite easy going street style looks Miley has been working recently and have decided to break down what exactly it is that I am loving and finding some similar items in plus sizes made for your curvy curves! While translating straight sized celeb style to plus has been presented as a tricky thing (primarily by designers making excuses), in the grander scheme of fashion it is as simple as taking a note from the celeb style you love and putting a spin on it that not only recreates the look you’re after but also flatters while still representing your personal style.

Miley has become a bit of grunge girl lately but has done it in a way that not only appears to bring comfort and an edgy “I just rolled out of bed and look this fabulous” quality but also some serious style points for her use of prints and pieces with that extra little something that takes the look up a notch.  Lets take a look!

Casual

So this first look is super casual, but also pretty damn cute in my opinion. Everything from the fantastic  fit of this grey t-shirt (it has a lovely slit in the back that makes it extra special), to the great dark wash skinnies screams casual and a look anyone could recreate, but the way it has been accessorized is really what makes the look noteworthy. The loose laced and untied  combat boots wrap around the skinnies make her legs look even tinier then they already are and shows that this bitch means business. Her use of gold dainty accessories also plays off the causal and a bit grungy look showcasing that there is still some femininity to her style.

Beetlejuice

This look has gotten some flack from the fashion community for its “Beetlejuice” nature but I absolutely love it.  Miley has been all about the printed pants lately especially those with a high waist. This look is so 90′s for me which absolutely makes me giddy, and i love the balance of the extreme print in the pants with the cropped black top that shows a little femininity in the cut. The sleeve length and the low cut square neckline enhances the girls and also accentuates her waist. The length on the pants is also fabulous especially a paired with the oxford style shoes. Accessories complete this look with a great knit cap (the quick and easy ponytail solution of short hair), once again the layering of dainty necklaces, and the chunky earrings that give the look a  little funk.

Cobalt

A lot of Miley’s looks have similar elements but done in different ways that keep her fresh and relevant. I absolutely love these cobalt skinnies which any woman can easily pull off for a pop of color to an everyday look. I love that she tucked them into her combat boots making both the skinnies and the boots big focal points in the outfit. Miley seems to love a comfy knit sweaters right now especially if it is a crop top, which I think any curvy girl could also rock if she chooses. However this look would also work with a longer length sweater if it is loose fitting and slouchy. Once again Miley is rocking the knit cap and these great circular sunnies.

FloralPants

This last look is my absolutely favorite! I have been drooling over floral printed pants lately especially when paired with dark pieces like Miley has done in this look. I love the way shes is playing off the femininity of the floral print with the platforms but is reminding us that she is one tough cookie with that fabulous leather jacket. Every girl deserves to have a leather, or faux leather jacket in her wardrobe  for bringing out her badass but it is even better when that jacket has some special detail that makes it unique. I love the quilted affect in Miley’s jacket which seems so appropriate with this look. PERFECTION!

Okay, so now that we have broken down why I am loving Miley’s Grungy Street Style here are some plus size options for exploring similar looks. Remember its all about combining casual items with something special, going edgy and then adding a touch of feminine, and owning your look like the badass you are! Also  as I always say throwing in some skulls, crosses, and animal prints never hurt.

What I Wore: “Squeeze Her, Don’t Tease Her, Never Leave Her”

Hey Curvy Chicks!

It’s been forever but I am finally ready to go with an actual outfit of the day! Yesterday I received a couple of packages in the mail I had been waiting on with some new styles that are really speaking to me and I was so excited to get dressed this morning. One of the packages was full of gifts from my friends at SimplyBe and I thought today was the perfect day to bust out on of the new items that I am LOVIN! Today Nightrider and I had a bunch of errands to run and with it being such a windy and yuck day out I needed something comfortable but still bright and cheery to bring out my spirit on an otherwise dreary day. A hat was also a must today cause there was not enough hairspray in the world to combat this wind. Check out what I ended up with!

Black Fedora: Rue21/Angel Ribbons Yellow Star Top: SimplyBe (Gifted)/Black Leggings: Torrid/Studded Flats: Ross

When I opened the package containing this crazy/lovely bright yellow top I was initially a bit afraid of its loud nature and especially how it would go with my new hair color but once I put it on I was absolutely in L-O-V-E. It is actually a really beautiful small scale star print on the bright yellow slightly sheer top and has enough sass in it’s elements to make me feel completely at home rockin this style. The sleeves are actually long and but as you have probably noticed if you have followed me for a while I can’t ever seem to resist pushing up my sleeves and have done so with this tops elastic cuffs as well. This top has a great exposed zipper that runs the whole length of the top making it perfect to wear open or closed (yay for more versatility!) and adds an edgy quality to the bright top making it perfection in my eyes.  I received this top in a size 22 US and it fits perfectly with nice room around the waist and hips, not to mention the dipped hem in the back the covers my hiney just right. I received probably a dozen compliments on this top today as well which makes me totally happy and overall this top is slammin and will probably become a new favorite piece to dress up or dress down

In this look I kept it really simple for a casual day but with a few special details that made it not just an outfit but a whole look. I added the fedora for weather purposes but also because I felt like it gave the overall look a bit of a late 80s early 90s hipster vibe that I couldn’t resist. I kept my comfort in check with my Torrid leggings (seriously a staple in my life) and sassed it up a extra notch with my pointed toe studded flats that are perfect for running around while still looking like one cool chick!

Since this look felt a little Duckie (from Pretty In Pink)  to me for some reason I decided to also share one of my favorite movie moments ever to remind everyone to march to the beat of your own style drum and to also Try A Little Tenderness!

What are you wearing today?

“I’m Good At Being Bad” Review Of Figuresque

I have a special place in my heart for edgy pieces that make me feel like one badass chick and that is exactly what this great new dress I recieved in my monthly review items from Figuresque  made me feel like!

Dress& Belt: Figuresque(gifted)/Boyfriend Cardigan:ASOS/Tights: Dress Barn/Booties: Torrid (gifted)

I was absolutely thrilled when I recieved the Studded Black Tuxedo Dress from Figuresque a couple weeks ago and have been so excited to put a look together with it! It is so edgy and fun that I knew it could be a killer piece in my wardrobe perfect for when I am feeling extra sassy. As you can see in the seconf photo this dress is sleeveless which really doesnt flow to well with Idaho winters so I am sure I will get more wear out of this dress in the future but since I am impatient as can be when I really like a piece I figured out a way to work it for winter. First off let me tell you that this dress is nicely made and a heavier material that makes it great for layered looks like this. It also runs true to size. I got this dress in a 3x and it fits perfectly on every curve. The studded detail is of good quality and is a great touch to the look to make it extra edgy and fabulus and the studs go all the way across the collar even on the back side. This dress is structured but comfortable and overall it a another example of the great items that Figuresque puts out there!

In this look I did a little bit of extra layering to keep warm with my gray boyfriend cardigan I got last year from ASOS curve. I then took the belt that came with the dress and added it over the cardigan to keep the shape and accentuated waist. On the bottom I am wearing a pair of dress barn tights and my awesome booties that were gifted to my by Torrid. I finished the look with my diamond stud earrings and some red lips to accentuate my feminity. I love this look and feel like a like on bad bish!
